Eagle Cane Project
I used to be a member of a wood carving group that was part of the Eagle Cane Project. This is a project where we made hand carved wooden canes and then presented them to injured (Purple Heart) veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital. The only reason I am not still part of this group is that I moved away from the Washington DC area, which is where this group is based.
Best Mom Ever

I made this for a commander that was finished with his command and going to a new assignment. The board is made from oak. His name is walnut. On the bottom left, there is the Air Force Commander's insignia, which is made from Mahogany.
Backboard going away plaques
I made these as going away gifts for the medical group. They are shaped like the backboards that patients are put on in an ambulance. They measure about 2 feet long by about 8 inches wide. The top one is made from Aromatic Cedar and the bottom one is Oak.

This plaque is made completely from Mahogany.

Name plate
I made this desktop name plate for MSgt Santos, who went to become a First Sergeant. The base is white oak. The part with the name is basswood. The diamond on the left is bloodwood, and the number 1 is teak. On the other side, the raised area with the coin is Purpleheart. On the sides of the name portion is walnut, with a Leopardwood trim. On the outside of the main plaque are the business card holders, which are made of Tulipwood.
Senior Master Sergeant plaques
I made these for the 2012 Senior Master Sergeant release. The plaque is Oak, and the stripes are made of Cherry
Bombers
I did this piece for a retiring Air Force member that has worked on bombers for his career. Starting from the top left, and going clockwise, it is the B-52, B-1 and B-2 bombers.
The frame is maple, with an oak frame that I put a walnut accent on. The scroll sawed planes are birch and the coins are on beech.

A-10 Warthog
I made this for a Senior Master Sergeant who was retiring. He was a maintenance specialist who worked on A-10 aircraft for a good chunk of his career. Anyway, many different woods were used on this. The background is oak and the frame is walnut. The main part of the body of the plane is African Mahogany. The outside of the engines and the pieces going along the back of the wings are walnut. The tips of the wings and the gun on the point of the nose is Ebony. Inside the engines, it is dark with a light circle. The dark is dyed Teak and the circles are basswood. The air refueling port and the outside missiles are Bloodwood. The other items hanging under the wings are Purpleheart, and teak. Lastly, below the cockpit, there is a little area sticking down, with a dark piece on the bottom. That dark piece is Flamewood.
Marine helicopter
I made this for a Marine. I made the helicopter as intarsia. The helicopter and backboard are made from alder. The propellors and stand for the plaque are walnut. The black door on the helicopter is ebony. The frame is stained basswood.
First Sergeant plaque
I did four of these plaques for First Sergeants that were leaving the base. The plaque is Oak, and the stripe is made of stained poplar.
Champagne Box
I made this box for a commander retiring from the military. It is made out of Honduran Mahogany and has a Bloodwood trim. The engraving is Cedar.
Commander's plaque
Made this plaque for my commander prior to him PCSing. His last name is Hart, and his call sign is Breaker. He is also a B-52 pilot. So I have the B-52 "Breaking" through the heart. I then have some pictures of airplanes, plus I have a joshua tree (since we are stationed in the middle of the desert) and a pirate. (Our unit is known as the "Desert Pirates.") Lastly, I did the commander's badge as intarsia.
The base of the plaque is oak, with a red mahogany stain on it. The commander's badge is poplar. I used cherry for the four blocks and the top name plate is basswood. The heart is made of padauk, and has a bloodwood dye on it. Lastly, the frame is cedar.
