Frog
This frog was made out of several different pieces. The branch I am not sure what type of wood it is. I got it out of a scrap bin. I believe it is mahogany, but I could be wrong. The leaves are made of a green wood called Verde Lignum. The green part of the frog is poplar and the white part is basswood. I used poplar, stained with red mahogany stain, for the backing and framed it in maple.
Explanation of Intarsia
For those of you who do not really know what intarsia is, I took this picture of the above frog from the side. As you can see, it is many different pieces of wood that are shaped and fit together. In addition, you will use "risers" in some areas to make it higher than another, which gives it a real 3-D effect and makes it look real when seeing it in real life.
Penguin
This penguin was done out of 3 types of woods. The dark wood is stain Alder. Then the baby penguin is Alder without the stain. The chest and neck of the adult is Maple. The two areas of yellow (the back of the head and the beak) are also Maple, with yellow coloring added. Lastly, the eyes are made from African Blackwood. This measures about 15 inches tall.
Teddy Bear
I made this for my daughter. The body is Walnut. The white areas are Poplar. The mouth area is mahogany and the scarf is Tulip wood. I also used buttons for the nose and eyes.
Puppy
I made this puppy for my other daughter--as she LOVES dogs. The "white" areas are Poplar. The legs, ear and face are Alder. The body is Mohagany. The eyes and nose are African Blackwood and the ball is Bloodwood.
Angel
The clothes, halo and wings of this piece are made of Alder. The hair is Walnut and the skin areas are Poplar. I also have African Ebony as the eye.
